The figure was carved using a copper body, gilded with 24k genuine and finely painted with acrylic paint to highlight the intricate design patterns of the Buddha. The deity is depicted seated upon a moon disc lotus with a peaceful expression as he is illuminated by a unique nimbus cloud from behind. The deity holds an alms bowl in his left hand while slightly touching the ground with his right hand in the gesture of attaining enlightenment. The figure is beautifully decorated with royal garments as well as body ornaments and a crown which are embedded with numerous jewel stones. The Buddhist tradition was founded by Shakyamuni Buddha. In the sixth century B.C.E., he lived and taught in India, at a period of rising religious and philosophical thinking from Greece to China. Siddhartha Gautama was born as the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom and was nurtured to be a king in line with his royal father's aspirations. However, when he was around 29 years old, he learned about people's tremendous pain in life. To uncover the reasons of this anguish and the methods to alleviate it, he abandoned his palace life and gave up his magnificent robes and gold.
