Atisa, a highly prominent Buddhist teacher from Bengal who established the Kadam school and revived Buddhism in Tibet, lived from 982 to 1054 CE. He was born as Dipamkara Shrijnana and attended Vikramashila and Nalanda before accepting King Jangchub Ö's offer to travel to Tibet. The book "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment," written by the famous Atisa, served as the basis for Tibetan Buddhism. The Gelug school was greatly influenced by his teachings, which placed a strong emphasis on bodhicitta, ethical behavior, and the practice of the perfections. The legacy of Atisa is still revered in Tibetan Buddhist circles.
