The sculpture depicts Buddha with his right hand resting meditatively and his fingers touching the ground, forming the Earth-touching mudra. His left hand is pleasantly holding an Alms bowl. This stance symbolizes enlightenment, anchoring, and the Buddha's relationship to the earth and his pupils.

He claimed to have then proceeded to a deer park in Sarnath (Benares), India, on the outskirts of Varanasi.
