Traditionally Handmade, The Happy Buddha Shakyamuni Statue
The Happy Buddha Shakyamuni statue is portrayed in the body movements used by Buddhist figures to communicate. The traditionally handmade Buddha is seated in the Bhumisparsa or 'Calling the Earth to Witness' mudrā. With fingers slightly touching the ground, this position represents the subduing of Mara (a demon), who surrounded Buddha with demons, monsters, violent storms, and the three seductive daughters. The left hand is in the meditation (dhyana) mudra gesture holding a bowl with a calm and peaceful face. As a result of Shakyamuni's achievement of Buddhahood, the earth rocked and shook. Shakyamuni's left hand rests on his lap and holds his alms bowl in a meditative posture.
