Padmapani Introduction
Lokeshvara, the bodhisattva with one face and two hands, is referred to as Padmapani (lotus holder) in Sanskrit. The stem of a blooming lotus flower is held in the left hand. The Sutras of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition provided the textual inspiration for Lokeshvara's imagery in this appearance. Lokeshvara is also referred to as Padmapani.
