Padmasambhava Guru Rinpoche Statue, Buddhist Lotus-Born Deity
This exquisite Padmasambhava Guru Rinpoche statue was hand-carved in copper and gilded in 24K gold in Kathmandu by Nepali artisans. The Buddhist Lotus-Born deity wears exquisitely molded robes with gorgeous patterns embedded in precious stone and turquoise, and his one-of-a-kind hat is topped with an eagle feather. He has a vajra specter in his right hand and a skullcup with a jar of immortality in his left. The Khatvanga trident, his celestial companion of bliss and nothingness, is held in the curve of his left hand, with three severed heads leaning on his left shoulder. His earlobes are elongated, and he wears coral studded ornaments.

For most Himalayan Buddhists, Guru Rinpoche is the second Buddha, the Buddha of all forms and teachings of enlightenment, focusing on the tantras. Tantra teaches us to initially see our instructors as Guru Rinpoche, just as the Great Way leads us to see our enlightened nature and name it buddha-nature. Then we view everything as Guru Rinpoche, down to the atoms of our bodies, all beings equally, and every scrap of every blade of grass, every grain of sand. Finally, it is Guru Rinpoche who we realize when we recognize our natural, timeless awareness.
