He is the root teacher of all the various lineages that comprise Buddhism as we know it. More than 2500 years ago, Siddhartha Gautama was the crown prince of the Shakya kingdom, which was located in the Himalayan foothills of what is now southern Nepal. He left the luxurious palace life behind him, however, in search of the source of suffering and the abolition of fear. Despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles, his incredible courage, determination, wisdom, and compassion led to his perfect enlightenment. His teachings have transformed individuals and nations all over the world, and they continue to speak to us today.
