Tibetan Shakyamuni Buddha Statue, Himalayan Buddhist Sculpture
The Tibetan Buddha Shakyamuni statue is hand carved in a meditation pose. The Himalayan sculpture art portrays his legs are crossed, and his right hand is palm up in his lap in the lotus stance. He uses the fingertips of his left hand to touch the ground, a gesture that refers to his summoning of the Earth Goddess in response to Mara's attempts to disturb his concentration. Shakyamuni asked the goddess to testify to his right to enlightenment, which she did, allowing him to beat his enemy and achieve Buddhahood.
