Tilopa (988–1069) was a founding member of the Kagyu lineage and a significant Mahasiddha in Indian Buddhism. Through rigorous meditation and austere practices, he acquired mastery over a variety of Buddhist and tantric teachings, receiving direct instruction from deities and other Mahasiddhas. Instructions from Tilopa, such as his well-known "Six Words of Advice," focus on direct, non-conceptual meditation. He passed on his teachings to his student Naropa, who then passed them on to Marpa the Translator, creating the lineage that would later become the core of the Tibetan Buddhist Kagyu tradition.
